Kurt’s paternal grandfather was the son of Robert Angle and Mary Freil. Robert was born in Wales. Mary was born in Pennsylvania, the daughter of John Freil and Catherine Ruddy, who were Irish.
Kurt’s paternal great-grandmother Mary Gray was born in Pennsylvania, the daughter of Stepon Zilaitis and Mary Shakavic, who were from Lithuania. Stepon changed his name to Stephen Gray at some point after immigrating to the United States.
Kurt’s maternal great-grandfather, John Peter Barwick, was born in Pennsylvania, the son of John F. Barwik/Barwick and Frances Zyks. John F. Barwik was born in Poland to a family of mixed Polish and German heritage. Frances was born in Pennsylvania, the daughter of Joseph Zyks and Mary Skarrer, who were both from Poland.
